Eagles win twin championships!

26 Oct 2019 by John Erfort

We did it! Both teams got the job done Saturday, as both the CMS 8th grade and 7th grade football teams defeated East Montana on Saturday at Mountain View High School to win the championship!
The 8th grade won 22-0 and the 7th grade won 14-13, as CMS won the Little 13 Conference championship in both divisions.
Both CMS teams ran the table, as each finished undefeated with a 7-0 record. The CMS program was a combined 14-0 this season, and the teams finished up by out scoring East Montana by a combined score of 36-13.
The 8th grade won the title for the first time since the 2015 team went 8-0. Those players are seniors at Canutillo High School and have led the varsity Eagles to a 7-1 record so far this season.
The CMS 7th grade won the title for the first time since 2016. Our 7th grade team lost in the title game in 2017.
Donovan Mozer ran for one touchdown and threw a TD pass to Ethan Villa in the 7th grade’s win. Danyelle Fino’s extra point kick ended up being the difference in a close game. Diego Guzman also had a big interception.
Alex Jordan ran for two touchdowns and Everett Marquez ran for another to lead the 8th grade to victory.
The 8th grade’s first string defense wrapped up its second shutout in as many weeks, and finished the season having not allowed any points. Max Montes had a crucial interception to help preserve the shutout, and Marquez added a huge fumble recovery to thwart a Rattler scoring threat in the first half.
