School starts Aug.17

16 Jul 2020 by John Erfort

Hello CMS Eagles family! Just a quick reminder that CISD decided today that school will begin Aug. 17 online only.

The first three weeks will all be online only (aka remote learning). After Labor Day, parents will have the choice to have students attend school in person or online.

Once you choose, you can’t switch options until the end of the nine weeks.

As of today, there is no option for some online and some in person. It’s in school or online. Those are the two choices right now.

As for athletics, we just don’t know yet. The UIL is expected to make an announcement soon. After that, we’ll see how it affects middle schools.

Many people have noted that club teams and various youth leagues are still playing. That’s true. However, those teams are not a part of the state’s education system like public schools and public school athletics. Those teams are all parent choice.

Just know that if we play, there will be very strict protocols as far as what we’ll have to do on a daily basis to keep the kids as safe as possible, and we will do whatever our district and athletic director and principal tell us to do.

Of note, the UIL recently announced that students who opt for remote learning will be eligible for athletics.
